This type of rhetoric by the chinese is not surprising. The reality is that if they want to run trade surpluses with the US they have to hold our debt. The last thing the chinese needs is a high interest environment in the US, that will be worse that the appreciation of their currency.

The bond vigilante argument lacks merit or traction. The deficit has to be dealt with in the long run, but it is not because of a threat of the chinese dumping treasuries, that argument is just bogus.
