With all of the talk about online shopping and stores being open on Thanksgiving and the death of Black Friday as we know it, a recent Deloitte holiday shopping survey finds that people are still going to be showing up at the stores after all.
In the firm's poll of 1,000 consumers, 51% plan to shop in stores over the Thanksgiving weekend, with 66% of those hitting locations on Black Friday. Only 17% will make a trip to retailers open on Thanksgiving.
But when the clock strikes midnight on turkey day, it looks like a pretty good amount shoppers are going to be ready to hit the stores. Of those hitting it on Black Friday, 23% plan to be there when the clock strikes 12:00.
Online, it looks like more people will shop on Thanksgiving (50%) than on the crappily named Cyber Monday (41%). The number of online shoppers is expected to rise 13% year over year.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that a company developed its own Black Friday survey that will monitor, using wristwatch-like devices, the stress of 60 people shopping on that day around the country, both in stores and online. Considering just the thought of hitting stores on Black Friday stresses us out, we have an idea what that report will reveal.
