This isn't just a McDonald's/Burger King/Wendy's game any more. Now there are all sorts of burger chains, many of them high end, opening their doors around the country.

Shake Shack, which just opened a Brooklyn, NY, location is making headway outside of New York with locations in Miami, Washington DC, Connecticut and the Middle East. In-N-Out Burger, a favorite of the West Coast, is making its way east and now has locations in Texas.

It's not just the well-known larger regionals that are expanding, though. Burger Business recently put out a list of 12 smaller burger chains to watch in the coming year.

We're especially intrigued by the Korean chain Kraze burger coming out here. Other notable chains expanding are Umami Burger, from Los Angeles, and M Burger from Chicago.

What do you think of the many burger joints that are popping up around the country. Is their growth sustainable or will most people just want something from McDonald's?

McD's is an insult to human intelligence, a source of internal pollution for the human body, and an affront to responsible child rearing. Of course the upscale Hamburger business is sustainable! Try Smash Burger and/or LarkBurger--both offer great food that is presented nicely in a grown up environment as opposed to a clown castle!
