EVENT OVERVIEW: The Design-Build Institute of America’s (DBIA) Southwest Region is hosting its 8th Annual Conference on April 12-13, 2012, at The Eldorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Appropriately titled, “Design-Build Goes Green in The Land of Enchantment,” the conference invites all DBIA-Southwest Region members, affiliated industry professionals, public and private project owners, interested students, and professionals wanting to learn more about Design-Build to join their friends and colleagues for this unique opportunity to network, earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and/or Learning Units (LUs), tour one of the nation’s most complex Design-Build projects, and hear the latest news, industry forecasts, best practices and trends from top Design-Build industry experts.
The DBIA is a membership organization that oversees the nation’s education and certification program for individuals and practitioners of the Design-Build method of project delivery, which embraces architecture, engineering and construction services under a single contract, thereby integrating the roles of designer and constructor. The DBIA’s Southwest Region represents members based out of its five-state region, including New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and can be found online at www.dbia-sw.org.
CONFERENCE DETAILS: The DBIA-Southwest Region’s 8th Annual Conference will feature a keynote presentation on “How To Take Design-Build To The Next Level” by Barbara J. Jackson, Ph.D., DBIA – one of the top U.S. experts on Design-Build and author of two industry-leading books, Design-Build: The Integrated Design-Build Team and Design-Build Essentials (Design-Build Library. Other topics on the conference agenda include presentations on how to achieve high-performance LEED/green buildings using the Design-Build method of project delivery, the typical differences between contract requirements on private, school, and federal Design-Build projects, strategies for success on fast-track projects, current trends relating to Design-Build, regional and national industry updates, and more.
Case studies on area Design-Build projects will also be showcased, such as the “greening” of the Santa Fe Community College, the lessons learned on the Los Lunas Substance Abuse Center and New Mexico Capitol parking structure, and the challenges faced and solutions implemented on the $221 million Buckman Direct Diversion Santa Fe project.
Also included in this year’s conference is a special presentation by students from the 2011 Associated School of Construction (ASC)-Region V Student Design-Build Competition Team, a special facility tour of the Buckman Direct Diversion Santa Fe project, networking receptions and events, and opportunities to earn up to eight (8) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) of DBIA Designation credit and up to seven (7) Learning Hours (LUs) of American Institute of Architects (AIA) credit.
