Yesterday in President Obama's inaugural address he outlined a number of lofty goals. I focused on where his agenda coincides with the interests of the real estate community, and without a doubt, his focus on global warming won the day for me. I am convinced that the environment is among the most critical issues of the day. When Hurricane Sandy descended upon New York City, we witnessed the East River overflow. The submerged FDR Drive and Wall Street was river front property. This has never happened before, but is sure to happen again, and again. The "Sandy Event" was a wake-up call on a grand proportion. Regardless of whether global warming is man-made, or a natural climatological change, we need to begin now to deal with its consequences, and developers might want to start looking inland for choice waterfront development sites.
