Google’s parent—Alphabet, Inc.—is at it again.  First they brought us Google Maps, then Google Earth and now Google Cities. The company has created a urban technology focused subsidiary known as Sidewalk Labs that is focused on city building. The company would find cities with large tracks of land they want redeveloped, probably economically blighted locations where Sidewalk would partner with these cities to drive developments that are envisioned to be heavily integrated with technology and house thousands of residents and employees.

The goal is to establish cities of the future, and provide an opportunity to feature ideas and incubate tech-wizardry,  ranging from self-driving cars to more efficient infrastructure for electricity and water delivery.  Sidewalk’s CEO is Daniel Doctoroff, New York City’s economic development czar during the first six years of the administration of Mayor Michael Bloomberg. During his watch with his technocratic approach, Doctoroff transformed numerous areas in NYC and his magic may very well happen again on an even larger scale with Sidewalk.

Stay tuned for more Alphabet news….I find this idea truly exciting!
