Much has been written about the millennial generation that is quickly coming into its own in the economy and moving into more senior management ranks across the business landscape.  But like new Republican era in Washington, it is difficult to gauge how impactful millennial change will be. There are a few factoids that I recently read in the New York City Real Deal monthly that hint at the scope of the change that the “selfie” generation is about to bring.

One in five New Yorkers is a millennial, and one-third are self-employed. By 2020 millennials are projected to comprise 50% of business travel according to the Boston Consulting group. Today one in three American workers are millennials taking the largest share of the US workforce.  These few facts paint a picture that millennials are already changing the fabric of our culture and the nature of the business community.  Overlay this with the sea change about to unfold in Washington as the Republican era emerges with a bang on January 20th, and coupled by the disruptive internet economy that is impacting every business and wreaking havoc with almost every sector.

As 2017 emerges, business leaders have an awful lot to ponder.  By the way, Happy New Year!
