NEW YORK CITY—Members of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate, otherwise known as AFIRE, were surveyed with good news for investors emerging from the results. Ninety-five percent of the respondents to the survey said that they will maintain or increase their investment in the US. The big winner is New York City which, for the seventh year in a row, is the number one city among foreign investors and for the third year in a row the top global city. On the other hand, Washington, D.C., has fallen out of favor.

For the first time since the survey began in 1992, the new home of Donald Trump fell off of the investors top five list of US cities and is now fifteenth. Nevertheless, I suspect that D.C. will see a renewed focus next year as the gears are primed under the new administration. The other noteworthy change is that the industrial sector took the top spot among investors edging out multifamily, signaling the dramatic change that has occurred with the supply chain as online retail explodes requiring new and different industrial support.

Stay tuned, domestic acquisitions professionals and investment committees, foreign capital is getting ready to fuel the fire.
