Portage Downtown Set for a Transformation

CHICAGO—Cities across the US increasingly embrace many “New Urbanism” principles such as walkable neighborhoods and mixed-use buildings, and Portage, IN, about 39 miles southeast of downtown Chicago, is about to launch a project that will give its residents and visitors a new pedestrian-friendly downtown rich in amenities.

Officials from Holladay Properties say they will break ground on August 1 for The Promenade at Founders Square, the town’s new $37 million mixed-use development, and the largest single investment in the South Bend, IN-based developer’s long history.
