New Homes Coming to North Minneapolis

The bungalows will be built on what are now vacant lots in a neighborhood which has suffered from a lack of investment.

MINNEAPOLIS–North Minneapolis could prove fertile ground for a wave of new single-family homes, according to a Twin Cities homebuilder breaking ground on its first Northside home today. As reported in GlobeSt.com, the historically disadvantaged neighborhood has started to attract investment, especially from THOR Construction, which plans to build its new headquarters here, and the NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, which plans a $60 million expansion.  

Now homebuilder Sm+RT Homes LLP, partly owned by THOR Sustainability, has unveiled its blueprint to build dozens of new, affordably priced single-family homes on the many vacant lots spread across the city’s Northside. The city of Minneapolis owns, through foreclosure, abandonment and tax forfeiture, nearly 350 vacant lots in north Minneapolis.
