Cambria groundbreaking. The
gang's all here.

NEW YORK CITY–Cambria Suites has entered the New York market with a bang, bang, bang. The Choice Hotels International brand broke ground on two hotels in the city and one in nearby Westchester in 24 hours.

On Dec. 6, Choice Hotels began construction on assets in Times Square and Chelsea. A day earlier, the Silver-Spring, MD-based hotelier launched a 130-suite hotel in Downtown White Plains. The three projects add 461 hotel rooms to its portfolio and involve a total investment of approximately $141 million, company officials say.

“Having three hotels under simultaneous construction in the New York metro area speaks volumes about the great appeal and performance potential of Cambria Suites,” says Steve Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International. “Working with the industry’s top developers gives us that extra edge in bringing this brand to New York, one of the most dynamic and highly competitive hotel and real estate markets in the country.”

The Cambria Suites’ Times Square property totals 81,000 square feet and is being developed in a joint venture between Choice Hotels and Concord Hospitality of Raleigh, NC. The property, at 30 W. 46th St., is scheduled to open in the winter of 2014 with 196 suites.

Its second New York City property at 123-125 W. 28th St. in the Chelsea, is being developed by Robert Chun of We Care Trading Co. Ltd., and will be managed by Concord Hospitality. The 56,500-square-foot property will feature 135 suites and is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2014.

A day earlier in downtown White Plains, Cambria Suites held a groundbreaking for its unique facility that will sit atop two stories of retail space at 250 Main St. The 130-suite hotel is expected to open in the summer of 2013 and is being developed in partnership with Meyer Jabara Hotels and Anthony J. Rotonde.

“White Plains is the commercial hub for Westchester County,” says Bill Meyer, chairman of Meyer Jabara. “Home to more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies and many more corporations, White Plains and the surrounding region attract business travelers from all over the world.”

In addition to the construction starts in New York, Cambria Suites recently announced development agreements in West Orange, NJ; West Palm Beach, FL; and Williamsport, PA. There are currently 19 Cambria Suites hotels across the country.
