former State Office Building

PHILADELPHIA-Developer Bart Blatstein, calling the project “transformational,” showed off his completed $70-million renovation of the State Office building here.

The developer, who hopes to transform the former headquarters of The Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News at 400 N. Broad St. into the centerpiece of a $700-million gaming complex, converted the 20-story State Office building at Broad and Spring Garden streets into 204 rental apartments. The one- and two-bedroom units now rent for $1,500 to $3,000 a month, according to a report in The Inquirer.

“Where others may have seen an older, vacant government office building, we saw an opportunity to create attractive apartment dwellings for a wide demographic of Philadelphians,” Blatstein told the newspaper.

The renovation of the State Office building is part of what Blatstein calls his “$1-billion commitment to North Broad St.” See story in The Inquirer.
