SILVER SPRING, MD-A meeting was scheduled last night among D.C. and Montgomery County, MD leaders to discuss the apartment boom here and its impact on surrounding neighborhoods.
The growing density in downtown Silver Spring is starting to create frustration and tension over traffic and other issues, according to a story in the Washington Post. Approximately 1,645 new apartment units are under construction in Silver Spring.
One of the organizers of the community meeting, Montgomery County Council member Valerie Ervin stated that cooperation is vital as growth continues along the D.C.-Maryland border, particularly with plans moving forward to redevelop the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
