TEHACHAPI, CA—A joint venture of two regional building partners is about to break for a new hospital for the Tehachapi Health Care District.
Bernards, a nationally ranked commercial builder in its 40th year serving the Southwest, and Colombo Construction Company Inc., a provider of building construction services throughout Southern and Central California for more than 60 years, formed the joint venture.
Designed by Stephen Wen of SWA Architects, the new $56-million, 25-bed, 78,979-square-foot facility will replace the existing hospital, which does not meet the current California Seismic Safety Standards. The new hospital will be located about two miles from the present facility. Construction will begin in February 2013 and the project is slated for completion in 2015.
The Tehachapi Health Care District Hospital, which is designated as a critical-access rural facility, offers acute care and outpatient services and operates rural clinics in Tehachapi and Mojave. It is the only hospital within a 50-mile radius.
“We are pleased that the Tehachapi Health Care District has chosen Bernards / Colombo JV to build the new replacement hospital for the Tehachapi community,” said Greg Simons, Executive Vice President in Bernards’ Los Angeles office. “This new state-of the-art facility will provide a safe, atheistically pleasing environment for patients, healthcare professionals and visitors and serve this community well for many years to come.”
