SILVER SPRING, MD-The Tower Cos. presented plans last night that would dramatically increase the residential and shopping components of The Blairs development here.

Representatives of the Rockville, MD-based firm unveiled its plans at a community meeting at the Silver Spring Civic Center that call for adding more than 1,400 new apartments, as well as new retail, green space and walking paths to The Blairs, according to the Washington Post.

A first step would be to demolish four of the complex’s smaller buildings, perhaps in the summer of next year. Over the next 10 years, the plan calls for the addition of a 125-room hotel and an office building at the property.

The energy efficient complex currently contains 1,371 apartments and a shopping center anchored by a Giant grocery store. See story in the Washington Post.
