NEW YORK CITY-The New York City Department of Education has confirmed the issuance of RFPS to build high-rise properties at two school sites on Upper West Side and another in Harlem.
The schools identified in the RFP are: P.S. 199 Jessie Isador Straus at 270 West 70th St., P.S. 191 Amsterdam at 210 West 61st St., and the School of Cooperative Technical Education located at 321 East 96th St. The schools could be demolished as early as 2015, according to The Real Deal.
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer in a letter to city officials and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott says the proposal would “place an excessive burden on families who moved intentionally within the confines of the two schools’ zones so their children could attend a highly-ranked public school.” He adds that the schools had recently undergone $21 million worth of renovations.
