SPRINGFIELD, GA-The Effingham County Industrial Development Authority unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding that will foster the creation of a $90-million movie studio here.

The MOI with Medient Studios Inc. was finalized on Tuesday at a board meeting. The project will create more than 1,200 jobs, according to the Savannah Morning News.

Manu Kumaran, chairman and CEO of Medient, says the movie studio, to be built on the IDA’s I-16 property, will be environmentally friendly. He says Effingham County beat New York and Pennsylvania for the project, and in Georgia, the county bested Savannah and Atlanta. See story in the Savannah Morning News.
