PHOENIX—If one needed any more proof that student housing is a hot investment, a look at brokers’ success would be an indication. Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services recently named Peter Katz as one of its top investment specialists for 2012. Incidentally, he’s also one of the most prolific and visible student housing investment brokers in the country.
Out of more than 1,000 investment specialists across the country, Katz ranked Number 8. Based here, Katz is senior vice president of investments and executive director of Institutional Property Advisors, a multifamily brokerage division of Marcus & Millichap that caters to institutional and major private investors.
“Peter achieved significant success in 2012 and we are proud to recognize him for his outstanding achievements,” says John J. Kerin, the firm’s president and chief executive officer. “His accomplishments as an institutional property advisor are a testament to his superior transaction expertise and unwavering commitment to client service.”
Katz first joined Marcus & Millichap’s office here as an agent in 1991 and became a vice president of investments in July 1999, rising to SVP in January 2008. Specializing in institutional-quality student housing and market-rate core product in the Southwest, he also serves as a senior director of the firm’s National Multi Housing Group.
Late last year, Katz represented Residential Housing in the sale of the District on 5th Ave., a student housing property near the University of Arizona in Tucson. Education Realty Trust bought the 764-bed community for $67 million, or $322,115 per unit and $268 per square foot.
