BARRINGTON, IL-Advocate Health Care is moving forward with a $247-million plan to renovate the 169-bed Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital here.

The Oak Brook-based health care company, which operates 11 hospitals in Illinois, is seeking to convert the hospital to all private rooms. The firm is also seeking to nearly double the size of the intensive-care unit, add four operating rooms and expand the pre-surgical and postoperative areas, according to an application submitted recently to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.

The company, which is the largest hospital network in the state, is also planning to invest $200 million as part of its proposed acquisition of Sherman Health Systems, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

Karen Lambert, president of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, says that planning for the renovation project began more than four years ago and is not part of a larger corporate strategy to gain market share in the northwest suburbs. See story in Crain’s Chicago Business.
