SHAKOPEE, MN-A division of Emerson Electric Co. will bring 500 jobs to an abandoned building that will get a $70-million upgrade.
Officials with Emerson announced on Monday its intent to convert the former ADC Telecommunications building into an engineering and manufacturing complex. As part of the deal, Rosemount Inc., a division of Emerson Electric, will invest approximately $70 million to complete and equip the abandoned 500,000-square-foot building, as well as construct parking, roads and green space on the site’s 60 acres, according to the Star Tribune. ADC vacated the building in 2000 and the property has been vacant ever since.
“I am ecstatic with the way this whole thing worked out,” Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke says. “Part of the reason this building sat empty for so long is that it was built so specifically for ADC’s manufacturing needs. And after the tech bubble burst in 2000, there was not a lot of need for that kind of manufacturing.” See story in the Star Tribune.
