WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Publix Super Markets Inc. announced plans on Friday to increase its portfolio in North Carolina with new stores in Cornelius and Winston-Salem.

The new stores will increase the Lakeland, FL-based firm’s presence to four stores in Charlotte and seven overall in the state, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

Publix reports it will build a 49,000-square-foot store in Cornelius at West Catawba and Jetton Road, in the Magnolia shopping plaza. That location is slated to open in late 2014. Its new 49,000-square-foot Winston-Salem store will be located at 34 Miller St. An opening date for that location will be sometime in 2015.

Maria Brous, media and community relations director for Publix, says the firm is aggressively looking for additional locations in North Carolina. See story in the Charlotte Business Journal.
