HYATTSVILLE, MD-ECHO Realty is partnering with Bernstein Cos. to build a grocery-anchored mixed-use project in the University Town Center complex here. The property will consist of two levels of 82,000-square feet of retail and office space. Safeway has already executed a lease for a 55,000 square foot supermarket at the project, for which ECHO just purchased a 3.5-acre parcel of land. The company also reports that leases are out for signature for half of the remaining space in the project.
Prince George’s County has approved the detailed site plan and the final design and construction documents are being completed. Contractor bidding will begin in late February or early March with site work tentatively scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2014. A delivery date has been penciled in for the third quarter of 2015.
The complex will be the first building, or “front door” of the University Town Center, a sprawling development in which Bernstein Cos, is active. UTC consists of more than 1.5 million square feet of office, two residential condominium towers, one 900-bed student housing tower and approximately 125,000 square feet of retail space anchored by a 67,500 square foot Regal Cinema.
