CARSON, CA—San Diego-based developer Affirmed Housing Group has opened the doors of its latest affordable housing development, Arbor Green Apartments. The three-story, 40-unit complex has an energy-efficient design and is LEED Platinum Certified.
Carson Mayor Jim Deer, Affirmed Housing Group president and CEO Jim Silverwood, US Bank SVP and market manager Richard Shea and Solari Enterprises EVP and CFO Bruce Solari were among those to attend the grand opening ceremony. “Arbor Green was designed to offer families affordable, energy-efficient homes in an interactive, innovative environment while fostering a true sense of community,” said Silverwood at the event. “We are pleased to celebrate the grand opening of this new development.”
The building offers one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment units to prospective tenants who earn 30% to 60% of the median income in Los Angeles County. The building features covered parking, community room and barbeque area. There is also a computer lab, life skills assistance center and homework-help staff to help residents lead a better quality life and achieve goals.
The LEED Platinum-certified building has rooftop solar photovoltaic systems that collect all of the property’s energy use, high-efficacy lighting fixtures and drought tolerant landscaping that preserves 47% of water. As a result of these efficient amenities, residents will pay 80% less in monthly utility bills as compared to a non-efficient household.
Affirmed Housing Group, in partnership with PATH Ventures, is also developing a 79-unit housing complex in Los Angeles called the Vermont Villas. This complex will provide housing to homeless seniors and homeless senior veterans. The complex received a 9% tax credit late last year to help fund the construction efforts. The project is scheduled to break ground in April.
