CHICAGO—The shuttering of Dominick’s grocery stores across the metropolitan area perhaps illustrates that shoppers are increasingly looking for food options beyond those provided by traditional grocers. Instead, many hunt for stores like Mariano’s and the Fresh Market that provide more organic foods. And shoppers in west suburban Glen Ellyn now have that option. The Opus Group just completed construction on the Fresh Market Center, a new center at 285 Roosevelt Rd. anchored by a 23,790-square-foot Fresh Market grocery store.
“There’s a niche that they think they can fill,” Sean Spellman, vice president and general manager of Opus Development Company, LLC, told GlobeSt.com.
Fresh Market now has nine stores in Illinois, seven in mostly-affluent suburbs of Chicago and two outside the metro area. Located between S. Lorraine Road and S. Lambert Road, this new retail center includes patio seating and 186 customer parking spaces.
“As these types of retailers look to expand, they typically choose to expand into well-established communities like Glen Ellyn,” Spellman added. “I’m not equating well-established to income, but I am equating it to a strong, high-density, residential base.”
Furthermore, Firehouse Subs just signed a lease and will occupy 2,230-square-feet of space and other tenants include Great Clips and Tide Dry Cleaners, occupying a total of 3,850-square-feet.
Mid-America represented Opus in the lease transaction with Firehouse Subs. Firehouse was self-represented.
Opus Development Company, LLC was the developer, Opus Design Build, LLC served as the general contractor for the project, Opus AE Group, LLC was the architect of record and OKW Architects was the design architect.
