MUNCIE, IN—Midland Atlantic Properties has just begun development on Muncie Marketplace, a 78,000-square-foot new retail center in this central Indiana city. The Indianapolis-based Midland began construction in March and plans to finish by the fall.
Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels and Five Below agreed to anchor the development, which is almost completely leased. The project also includes two outlots, featuring a freestanding McAlister’s Deli and an 8,000-square-foot center with Men’s Wearhouse and a 4,000-square-foot premium endcap vacancy.
“Having pre-leased 95% of Muncie Marketplace prior to construction shows that it is the perfect complement to the area’s retail mix,” says Patrick Boyle of Midland Atlantic, who handled leasing for the development.
Aaron Boyle, principal of Midland Atlantic, says “it is great to see retailers expanding and looking for new opportunities; it shows recovery in the economy and the retail sector. We are very excited to develop Muncie Marketplace not only for the retailers but also to bring a quality new development to serve the community of Muncie.”
The home of Ball State University, Muncie once hosted a good deal of manufacturing, but according to Forbes, the city’s “current economic backbone is in health care, education, retail, and other service industries.”
Muncie Marketplace sits on approximately 9 acres on the northwest corner of McGalliard Rd. and Barr St., within the main retail trade area, and adjacent to the 636,000-square-foot Muncie Mall and Target, the city’s most important retail center.
