Potrero Hill will include 453 units of residential and 26,000 square feet of neighborhood retail.

SAN FRANCISCO—Equity Residential has broken ground on Potrero, a 453-unit apartment complex with a one-acre park located at Seventh and 16th streets.

Jim Kelly, the firm’s first vice president of development says the project will help re-envision urban living in the south of Market submarket.

Along with 453 residences and 26,000 SF of neighborhood-serving retail, the community will also include a clubhouse, pool and swim spa, an expansive rooftop deck with incredible views, a fitness enter, a pet spa and its own one-acre onsite park. 

“Given that outdoor park space is a coveted commodity in any urban environment, we’re working with the City to deliver a one acre park, that will not only be a great amenity for the residents within our development, but will also be a great addition for the entire Potrero neighborhood to enjoy,” Kelly said. “In terms of our specific development, we’ve also designed numerous additional areas to enable outdoor enjoyment including barbeque areas and bike facilities. We have been working with residents and listening to what they want to see in this next generation of apartment living, and we’re doing our utmost to incorporate these concepts into our new developments.”

 According to Potrero’s architect, David Baker of David Baker Architects, “This design supports the new housing with wonderful flexible, creative, and open green spaces. Such active features as a pedestrian mews, street-level live-work units, and neighborhood-serving retail connect it to the existing area in an inviting way. The building will set the stage for a new community, integrating residential and small-industrial maker spaces into this urban mixed-use zone.”

Scheduled for completion in 2016, Potrero has an estimated construction cost of $224 million.
