LOS ANGELES—“What is possible today that has not been possible before?” This was the question that Devin Fidler, research director at the Institute for the Future posed at the opening of his speech at CoreNet Global’s the Future of Work presentation. It is undeniable that workplaces are changing, and according to Fidler, technology is at the heart of this movement.

Today, there are many topics organizations are facing: shifting workplace demographics, more people living in cities, emergence of digital natives (people who have always had a mature version of the internet), emergence of cloud super computing, SAAS unbundling, data security, global skill gaps, just to name a few. In the past, technology has been used as a mode of communication and commerce in the past today is being used as a mode of coordination, and as a result technology can help streamline the business supply chain and operations.
