Evanston officials have hired Brailsford & Dunlavey to determine whether a recreation and community center is needed on the southeast side. If the consultants find a need, they will recommend three potential sites. The community meeting on that issue is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at Oakton School, 436 Ridge Ave. A decision could come this spring.

Meanwhile, a Jan. 10 meeting at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Recreation Center, 2010 Dewey Ave. will cover issues including public infrastructure and services; streets and transportation; public safety; human resources; local institutions; housing; historic character; community character/aesthetics; communication and economic development.
