According to Robin Reibel, spokesperson for Filene's, this store is smaller than the standard Filene's stores, which are usually between 180,000 sf to 220,000 sf. Reibel tells GlobeSt.com that this is one of two "new format" stores. "This is a lifestyle concept store," says Reibel. "It responds to the customer's need for simplicity." Among the features of the new store are one-level shopping and express check-out lanes. Filene's has recently opened a similar style store in Leominster, MA and these two new stores bring the company's total number of stores in the state up to 20.
Other anchor stores at the Westgate Mall include Macy's, Marshalls and Sears. Filene's is part of St. Louis, MO-based May Department Stores Co. As part of its growth in the state, Filene's is also expanding its store in the Independence Mall in Kingston, MA to accommodate a larger home store.
