A spokesperson for Fujifilm says that the current facility is 65,000 sf with a separate warehouse building of 35,000 sf for shipping and storage. The expansion is projected at an estimated 60,000 sf and Fujifilm anticipates that it will allow it to more than double its annual production of high-capacity tape cartridges for data storage.

The company also notes that the expansion could create an estimated 150 new positions. Fujifilm says that this facility plays an essential role in its assembly of tape media storage products. Tape materials are coated at Fujifilm's manufacturing facility in Greenwood, SC and in Japan, and are then supplied to this facility.

Construction is scheduled to begin this month and the cost of the project is estimated at $35 million. Fujifilm notes that the added capacity will also allow it to expand relationships with its OEM--original equipment manufacture--customers, and to devote more resources toward developing next-generation data cartridge products to support its resellers and end-users.
