Marta is asking area developers for plans to create a six-acre, mixed-use, higher-density undertaking at its Kensington station, the newest of nine station sites the agency has targeted for real estate development. The deadline for submitting proposals is Aug. 18.

The transit-oriented developments around Kensington and the other eight sites would consist of housing, retail, commercial and office components, Marta officials confirm. At Kensington, the undeveloped acreage is on the north side of the station, off Memorial Drive. Half of the tract is currently used as a parking lot.

Area brokers familiar with Marta's plans tell GlobeSt.com the agency's strategy is similar in concept to the conventional Downtown urban-village-type centers that promote living, working, playing, shopping and entertaining at a single central location.
