SUNRISE, FL-Fort Lauderdale-based Stiles Corp. unveiled preliminary plans for Gateway Shoppes at Sawgrass, a 25-acre complex of retail shops and restaurants, on the former site of Blockbuster Golf and Games. Douglas Eagon, president, says his company is seeking approvals for the plan from city officials.
Stiles has owned the parcel at the intersection of Interstate 595/SR 84 and 136th Avenue here for several years and considered a variety of development options before deciding on the planned retail/restaurant mix. "We believe that Gateway Shoppes at Sawgrass would provide area residents with an excellent shopping and dining experience," he says.
He declined to offer an estimate of the development cost. And, although no rendering of the complex is yet available, Eagon says the architectural features would include "tower elements, substantial landscaping, pedestrian-oriented covered walkways and outdoor dining." He adds the complex would bring a mixture of shops and restaurants that are not already in this marketplace in order to build on the success of existing retail and commercial businesses in the area.
Stiles has regional offices in Miami, Tampa and Fort Myers in addition to its Fort Lauderdale headquarters. It has developed more than 30 million sf of office, industrial and retail space throughout the southeastern US.
