Two other project are also slowing traffic flow near Decatur's Downtown square, area marketers tell GlobeSt.com. The projects are a $2.5-million renovation and expansion of City Hall and construction of an $8-million, nine-story condominium building. Archer Western, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chicago-based Walsh Cos., is not involved in these projects, according to Decatur city representatives.
In a separate proposed Marta project, Atlanta developer John Dewberry has told the transit authority his earlier plan for a new uptown station in Midtown has been revised as an above-ground facility instead of a previously detailed below-ground project. Dewberry has told the rail agency the above-ground project would cost up to $210 million compared to $290 million for a below-ground station.
Marta officials, however, have put Dewberry's proposal on hold until the agency can complete the Beltline/C-Loop and expansions to the west, north and east rail lines, sources following Marta's expansion plans tell GlobeSt.com.
Dewberry is developing Two Peachtree Pointe, an 18-story, 292,000-sf, class A office building with ground-floor retail at Peachtree and West Peachtree streets in Midtown. The estimated $60-million property is near the proposed new uptown station, as GlobeSt.com previously reported.
