NEW YORK CITY-Instead of seeking approval for rezoning a project in Hempstead, Rochester-based Conifer and the Community Development Corporation of Long Island are aiming to create 94 rental apartments in place of two former off-campus dorms, called Twin Oaks. The two three-story buildings were constructed in the early 1960s.

The Twin Oaks property was purchased from Hofstra University. The site plan approval for the $30 million project was received from Hempstead Village. The project is expected to be complete by next fall. For the full story, go to New York Times.
