NEW YORK CITY-The city's Planning Commission is on course to vote on a rezoning proposal for Ozone Park spanning some 530 blocks early next month
The rezoning plan would restrict development on residential blocks to mainly one- and two-family houses, while taller, mixed-use projects could be developed on more commercial-oriented streets, according to the Wall Street Journal. After the Planning Commission, the rezoning plan would go before the full City Council for review.
"We're trying to make sure that growth is channeled in a more sustainable way," says John Young, the director of the Queens office of the Department of City Planning. "We want it to be appropriate for residential side streets, so that they are stabilized and protected, while allowing for moderate levels of growth on transit corridors."
