GILBERT, AZ-WinCo Foods reports that it will open its new 97,000-square-foot discount supermarket here on Thursday.
The Boise, ID grocer plans to open the store at 1967 E. Pecos Road at 8 a.m. The store will initially employ approximately 130 workers, 110 of whom are newly hired from the Gilbert area.
WinCo operates as a regional discount supermarket company and currently employs nearly 15,000 workers. The grocer operates 91 stores and four distribution centers in the states of Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Arizona and Utah.
The company states that it is in the process of building a new distribution center in Phoenix, which will service stores in Arizona, Southern California and Southern Nevada. The company also plans to enter the Texas market in early 2014 with its first two stores in Fort Worth and McKinney.
