ALEXANDRIA, VA—US District Court Judge Anthony Trenga has ruled against Jones Lang LaSalle's claim that it was due a multi-million dollar commission in the National Science Foundation's massive headquarters lease in Alexandria, VA.

Judge Trenga, in a summary judgment handed down on Friday, ruled that the brokerage firm is not entitled to a brokerage commission for assisting Hoffman Co. attract the National Science Foundation to a new headquarters at Hoffman Town Center.

Judge Trenga ruled that JLL is not entitled to the commission because the lead broker involved in the deal, JLL Senior Vice President Art Turowski, was not licensed as a real estate broker in Virginia at the time, according to the Washington Business Journal.

JLL filed suit against Hoffman in U.S. District Court in Alexandria last August claiming Hoffman refused to pay $6.6 million in commissions for negotiating the 660,848-square-foot, 15-year lease. Hoffman has argued that the agreement with the brokerage firm that would have required the commission had expired. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
