WESTBOROUGH, MA—Health care IT company eClinicalWorks is expanding its operations here and is investing more than $50 million in the purchase and upgrade of the vacant 900 West Park Drive office building.
The company, which is headquartered at 1 and 2 Technology Drive here, also reports it has opened a new office in Austin, TX.
eClinicalWorks purchased the more than 193,000-square-foot property from EMC Corp. for $21.5 million. EMC Corp. constructed the building but never took occupancy. Heather Caouette, a spokesperson for eClincalWorks, tells Globest.com that the company plans to invest another $30 million to build out its space and make needed improvements.
“Right now it has no walls, it is pretty empty inside and so we are going to go in and renovate,” she says. The company expects to take occupancy of 900 West Park Drive in the second half of 2016.
The company owns 1 and 2 Technology Drive in Westborough where it houses its headquarters operations. The two buildings total approximately 160,000 square feet of space. Its new operations at 900 West Park Drive are about a five-minute car ride from each other on the other side of Route 9.
Caouette adds that in coming years the company plans to add approximately 1,000 workers to its Westborough workforce. The company currently employs approximately 900 workers in Westborough. The company has a worldwide workforce of about 4,300 employees and maintains offices in New York City, Chicago, Austin, TX, Pleasanton, CA and Alpharetta, GA.
“eClinicalWorks has experienced another banner year,” states Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “As we keep innovating and healthcare organizations derive value from the cloud-based technologies we deliver, more space is required to continuously develop new technology and support our growing customer base. This expansion will allow us to double our footprint in Westborough to better serve our employees and customers.”
The company announced on Tuesday that it also opened a new location in the Stonebridge Plaza at 9606 North MoPac Expressway in Austin. The facility is nearby offices of Oracle and Google. The company will initially employ about 50 workers, but eventually hopes to house about 200 employees at that location.
eClinicalWorks is a privately-held leader in ambulatory healthcare IT solutions and specializes in electronic health record implementation. With physicians across all 50 states, its customers include ACOs, physician practices, out-patient departments of hospitals, health centers, departments of health and convenient care clinics. The company is the second largest in the country for e-prescribing.
