The building's height is matched by the asking prices, which range from over $1.2 million to more than $13 million, excluding one apartment that sold for $38 million, a world record. Among the amenities are a 60-ft swimming pool, private spa and health club and a private wine cellar.
Some community residents complained that the $400-million building, which dwarfs the United Nations nearby, was too tall for the neighborhood. Occupancy of its 376 units, 65% of which are sold, is slated for spring 2001. The architect is Costas Kondylis & Assoc.
