For the second month in a row, just 23% of the county's families were able to afford a median-priced, single-family home in August, according to the survey by the California Association of Realtors.
The county's housing affordability is down 29% from a year ago. The median price of a resold single-family home was $276,000 in August, 7% higher than the $238,000 reported in August 1999.
In Orange County, 26% of families could afford a median-priced home. The figure for Los Angeles County is 33%.San Francisco and Contra Costa counties are the least affordable in the entire state at 12%.
