Construction began last summer on the 40-acre Santana Row site at the intersection of Stevens Creek and Winchester boulevards. It previously contained the Town & Country Village shopping center. It was demolished in June. In addition to the retail and entertainment, the mixed-use project designed by Sandy & Babcock International will include 1,200 residential units and have 268 townhouse units, 114 stacked-flat units, 24 live/work units.

Santana Row also will include a cinema, a 200-room hotel, a gourmet grocery store, 3,500 parking spaces for shoppers and 1,700 for residents. There will be more than 120 retail shops, 11 of which have already been signed. Federal Realty Investment Trust is developing the roughly $700 million project. The Rockville, Md.-based equity real estate investment trust specializes in the ownership, management, development and redevelopment of retail and mixed-use urban districts.
