SOCRRA has planned for 40 years to build a nine-hole golf course on a 140-acre former landfill in Rochester Hills. The course will cost $4.9 million to build, and about $800,000 a year to maintain. The money to buy it came from the sale of 57 nearby acres of land for $4.3 million to a developer who plans to build condominiums.
However, the Royal Oak officials say the authority is only allowed to operate trash services and dog pounds. Monday night's action by the city officials is seen by many as another attack upon SOCRRA, which it has been trying to leave for more than a year.
The course design, tentatively called Avon Meadows, will be discussed at SOCRRA's Wednesday meeting.
