Construction on a 50,000-sf speculative building is expected to begin this spring. The development is expected to eventually attract about $50 million in investment and provide 600 new jobs, according to a published article.
MarkPierce will build and market the park, which is also to include a 10-acre site for retail development. Kannapolis will buy the land and pay for the cost of street, water and sewer improvements with an estimated $2.75 million in city and federal funds.
According to the article, MarkPierce partner Patrick Pierce says the park will represent a new level of industrial and retail investment in the city. Mayor Ray Moss believes the location and quality of life in the region make for an excellent investment, the article states.
Kannapolis Gateway Business Park is the second such park to be announced recently for the newly renamed Kannapolis Parkway at N.C. Highway 73. Whitley & Co. Motorsports Park, a 217-acre project with about 1.1 million sf of office, is also planned for the area, according to a published article.
