The former 580,000-sf hospital campus, located on Conner Avenue on Detroit's East Side, will have a new name: Samaritan Center. The Mercy Hospital closed in March. The new facility will be a center that will provide health, recreation, social services, education and job training.

Trinity Health is the country's third-largest Catholic health system. It is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Regional Community of Detroit and the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

The transfer in ownership will be final this spring when a rescription -- approval to dispose of a Church asset -- is received from Rome.SER Metro and Boysville will operate programs from Samaritan Center. In addition, several other programs and services have contracted to lease space there.
