Board President Anne Sherwood says the funds to refurbish the two camps will come from the sale of two MMGSC camps in Lapeer County (Camp Sherwood) and northern Oakland County (Camp Narrin).
The Boy Scouts of America Tall Pine Area Council purchased Camp Sherwood for an undisclosed sum and the sale of Camp Narrin is near completion.
The improvements at both camps include nature trails, bird watching towers, weather stations, Alpine towers and rope courses, as well as better dining, sleeping and bathroom facilities. Special features include an interpretive boardwalk over a wetland area, expanded waterfronts, a program barn for year-round activities, and a swimming pool.
The MMGSC camps serve more than 14,000 Michigan Metro Girl Scouts annually and the new camp plans will accommodate twice as many in the future.
