"There's quite a number of people across the state practicing real estate without a license," Saunders tells GlobeSt.com. "That only makes it more difficult for the licensed professionals to do their jobs and represent their clients."

He says, "My goal this year will be to focus on unlicensed broker activity." The former member of Florida's House of Representatives, adds, "I want to make sure we enforce the existing laws and strengthen the statutes."

The FREC, established in 1925, regulates and disciplines, when necessary, Florida's 194,273 real estate licensees. The board operates under the Florida Division of Real Estate, a division of the state's Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Saunders owns Saunders Real Estate in Lakeland, Polk County, 50 miles south of Orlando. He completes his four-year term as a FREC member in October. Saunders Real Estate is a member of RealSource, a Southeast and Mid-Atlantic network of commercial real estate brokers.
