The bill, sponsored by Minnesota Sen. Dick Day, would have directed the Minnesota Lottery to build and operate a Twin Cities casino that would compete with the 18 Indian casinos in the state, with the proceeds going back to the state. Meanwhile, another bill that would create a new state-run casino that would evenly split an estimated $200 million in profits between the state and members of Indian tribes who live in Minnesota is gathering support.
But its unlikely that either casino proposal will be voted on until next session, as the proposals will likely be the subject of statewide hearings over this summer and fall.
