The application process for the grants was competitive, and the cities and towns of Trenton, Neptune, Pleasantville, Salem, Berlin, Maplewood, Elizabeth and South Amboy all proved to state officials that they deserved the Neighborhood Preservation Program aid. On tap are a variety of local projects, including housing improvements, storefront and streetscape repairs, plus park, lighting and landscape upgrades.
