Bill Frame, the project's leasing agent representing Kidder Mathews & Segner Oncor International in Tacoma, could not be reached for comment. The reduction reportedly leaves Opus with 70,000 sf left to lease in order to begin building the project's 130,000-sf centerpiece, and there are deadlines looming. The site currently sits as a parking lot in the center of downtown. Opus has until May 26 to buy the property from the county or request an extension. Until the deadline expires, the $200,000 Opus has placed in escrow remains refundable.
Last fall, Opus asked the county for a yearlong extension on buying the land, but was granted only a six-month extension. If it grants another, the council could charge Opus $10,000 per month for additional time to study the project.
