"Our business is information. If we can add more information, more data for our customers to make a decision that's clearer... that's the name of the game," says Roddy, who is recognized throughout the region for his quarterly reports as well as inventory listings. "We don't have any kind of plan to do anything else at this time." Given Dallas-based Web Real Estate's latest drive to franchise operations that's a key statement from the veteran whose primary competition in the region is the CoStar Group Inc.
Roddy tells GlobeSt.com that it's just a one-way street at this time, giving his customers access to building pictures and any additional data that might be on Web Real Estate. That extra information, says Roddy, means more timely information on certain structures since his team updates quarterly and Web Real Estate's a johnny on the spot. "If we can create alliances for our customers to offer them more information, we will do it," he emphasizes.
Roddy's database, DFW Real Smart.com, encompasses 10,000 office, industrial and retail buildings in the metroplex. In May 2000, Roddy had bought the database of another Dallas-based operation, M/PF Research. Web Real Estate lists 2,000 buildings. The bottom line is Roddy says this as a way to "give our customers the best service and the best data available.... If there is a smidgen of information that they have that we don't, we want our customers to have that.
